Grecia, located in the province of Alajuela, is set in Costa Rica’s Central Valley amidst beautiful mountains and rich, lush scenery. Grecia has the distinction of being one of the cleanest towns in Central America, and has a fantasic, breezy climate. The local Ticos are extremely friendly and laid-back, mostly farmers of sugar cane, as well as organic coffee and pineapple. Grecia has several tourist attractions, including a unique, red metal church. The Cathedral de la Mercedes is a gothic style church, which was made in Belgium and the pieces were shipped to Grecia in the 1890’s. Grecia is also home to a large insect and butterfly museum and also the World of Snakes, a large serpentarium, where onlookers can observe over 50 types of snakes in their natural habitat.
