Learn Spanish in Heredia

Located just 6 miles north of the capital of San Jose, Heredia is a large city that still retains some small-town feel. This city is an excellent base for traveling throughout Costa Rica. Heredia is home to one of the largest universities in the country, the National University of Costa Rica, which is home to many international students. Heredia is situated among verdant, coffee plantation-covered hills and is in proximity to two major national parks, the Braulio Carrillo and Tapanti National Park. The Barva Volcano is located in Braulio Carrillo, and is one of the few climbable volcanoes in Costa Rica. Those who put forth the effort are rewarded with a majestic cloud forest that surrounds the summit. In both parks, visitors can catch glimpses of the elusive quetzal, the bird that symbolizes Costa Rica, as well as pumas and tapirs. Heredia is also located near the Butterfly Farm.
