Puntarenas, the largest city on the Central Pacific coast, is located in the province of the same name. This city is the most important fishing port in Costa Rica, and is famous for its excellent, fresh seafood. Be sure to try the local specialties! Though not known for especially beautiful beaches, there is a thriving, lively feel to this city, especially on weekends, with many open-air cafes serving excellent food and drink.
